Call of Duty 5 : Call of Duty: Black Ops Announced, Due in November
Call of Duty: World at War developer Treyarch has announced that the latest entry in the long-running shooter series is named Call of Duty: Black Ops and will be released on November 9, 2010, ahead of its revelation on tonight's episode of GameTrailers TV.
While the announcement gives no details on the game, it has long been rumoured that Treyarch's next Call of Duty title would be set in the Vietnam War era. PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases should be expected, considering the franchise's history.
Treyarch's 2008 World at War and sister studio Infinity Ward's 2009 Modern Warfare 2.
While all seems in order at Treyarch, its sister studio--Call of Duty creator Infinity Ward--is in turmoil. After the studio's co-founders Vince Zampella and Jason West were fired by owner Activision in March, a large proportion of its staff quit--many to join West and Zampella's new studio, Respawn Entertainment. Activision is now being sued by thirty-eight current and former employees for unpaid royalties plus damages.
We'll no doubt learn more about Call of Duty: Black Ops on GameTrailers TV tonight.

Bad Comapny 2 : EA Maintenance, now with extra added hardware
Tomorrow, 12th March, and Saturday, 13th March at 8:00GMT/9:00 CET:12:00 (midnight) PST, EA will take the servers down, this time we will come up with even more hardware with more capacity to handle all the BFBC2 traffic. Once the maintenance is complete you will experience an improvement to your online experience.
This will be extended maintenance to allow the new hardware to be installed and affect all three platforms (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360).
Since launch a week ago, BFBC2 has already put EA servers through the following stress:
The 4 different soldier types have gathered a score of more than 34 Billion.
There's been more than 400M kills made.
1.3M roadkills
Squads and Teams have assisted each other to 6.2 Billion points.
Now we are adding more capacity to let you smash those numbers multiple times over in the weeks to come.

It seemsthat despite all of the talk that first-person-shooter (FPS) titles have moved on from the PC platform to the console systems, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 might be bucking this trend more than a little bit. Our sources tell us that the sales for BFBC2 on the PC platform have been surprisingly strong for the PC platform right out of the gate, despite the fact that there are more than a few bugs that are in urgent need of being patched.
The majority of the issues for the PC BFBC2 community seem to center on problems with Punkbuster and the internal server browser that is unique to the PC edition of the game, as it isn’t necessary for either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version of the game. While the company is examining the situation and trying to resolve the problem no time table has been set as to when PC players can expect a patch to address the issue.
No matter the problems, it still is very interesting how much momentum the PC version of BFBC2 has had right out of the gate. While we don’t know the actual sales numbers yet, several sources close to the situation insist that the sales were much higher than DICE thought the PC version of the game would generate within weeks of release. This is confirmed by our sources that tell us that since release, the PC version of the game frequently has more players online than the combined total of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 BFBC2 online players.

Introduction
My name is Johan Andersson (Twitter:repi) and I'm one of the architects working on our proprietary Frostbite engine here atDICE.
We've had numerous requests to go through in more detail about what kind of graphical features & options that exists in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for the PC. So this is an attempt at just that.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is based on Frostbite 1.5, but with multiple enhancements and a lot of specific effort spent on building it up and for the PC as this is the first time Frostbite is used on PC.
DX9/DX10/DX11
Frostbite 1.5 on PC is designed for DirectX 10 as a base, this enables us to easily support all the advanced graphics features that we use on the consoles, and much more! DX10 is a very modern graphics API and gives us a lot of flexibility as a developer.
DX10 has one unfortunate draw back though; it is only supported on Windows Vista and Windows 7, not the now 9 year old Windows XP. And as we have a big PC fan base, where not everyone may have transitioned over to Vista or Windows 7 yet, we have also added a rendering path that uses the old DirectX 9.
The DX9 path is quite efficient but lacks some of the features that we have on DX10 like anti-aliasing and HBAO.
For everyone with the new generation of graphics card, like the AMD Radeon 5xxx series or the upcoming Nvidia Geforce 4xx, we've also added support for DirectX 11. The primary uses of DX11 in Bad Company 2 is to soften all the dynamic shadows as well as to improve performance in general with a few smaller DX11 optimizations that we are using.
The detection and usage of DX9/DX10/DX11 is done automatically, the game selects the highest possible version available with your graphics card and OS. If you want to force a given path you can do that in the Settings.ini file by setting 'DxVersion' to any of these options:9,10,11orauto(default).
The Settings.ini file can be found in My DocumentsBFBC2 directory.
AMD Eyefinity
Bad Company 2 supportsAMD's Eyefinity rendering modewhere you can have 3 (or 6!) monitors connected to a single graphics card. The game will then detect that mode and the very wide aspect ratio and render using a wide horizontal field of view and keep the menus & HUDs on the middle display. This can create a very immersive experience if you have the hardware required.
Elmnator1 posted this Youtube video showing Eyefinity in the Bad Company 2 PC Beta on his nice setup:
